A 5-minute check-in for women in midlife
“It feels like I have to rebuild my whole life from scratch.”
You don't. You're in a transition, and transitions have a shape. Something ends. There's a long, uncertain middle. Then something new begins. This check-in shows where you are on that path, and which part of you is asking for the most care right now: your body, your story, or your sense of who you are.
This is a reflection tool, not a diagnosis, and it isn't therapy. Your results are a starting point for a conversation.
Your check-in results
Adapted from William Bridges' model of transition: an ending, a neutral zone, a new beginning.
Scored from your 12 statements. Higher means that layer is asking for more attention right now.
Body is what your nervous system holds. Story is the thoughts and rules you live by. Self is who you understand yourself to be.
Most women who take this check-in already know a lot about why they feel the way they do. Insight matters, but it lives in the thinking part of the brain. Stress, grief and old protective patterns live lower down, in the parts of you that run your heart rate, your sleep and your sense of safety. That's why you can understand something completely and still feel it in your chest at 3 a.m.
Lasting change usually needs three kinds of work, done together:
Why this matters for EMDR. When the past loses its grip but the old role, rules and routines stay the same, life tends to pull you back into the old shape. Body work keeps you steady enough to do the deeper work. Identity work gives the change somewhere to land. All three rarely fit in a 50-minute hour.
A typical shape. Every session is adjusted to you.
I'll send your full results, your resource list, and The Becoming Field Guide, a short guide to the body side of identity change.
